No longer are we attached to the internet via a physical cord, so not surprisingly, computing is getting more and more portable. As a result, laptops have become increasingly prevalent in both business and home applications. Here are a few sites to get you started:

Sites

CNET
CNET always has good in-depth reviews and a sleek site structure. You can browse laptops by price, manufacturer and by the editors’ top picks. Be sure to check out their buyer’s guide.

PC Magazine
Similar to CNET, this site offers multiple ways to browse laptop reviews. Not quite as intuitive as the CNET site, but it still offers quite a bit of good information.

PC World
Not as easy to browse as CNET or PCMag, but it’s a good place to find a second or third opinion on a laptop. They also have a buyer’s guide.

Notebook Review
This site is more of a blog focusing on news and reviews. It features a handy list on the left that shows the most popular laptops available, along with forums where you can pose your laptop questions to other users.

Laptop Magazine
This site supports the hardcopy magazine available at your local newsstand. Consumers can read most of the magazine’s articles online, which are sorted by issue, and focus on reviews and various features relating to laptops or general computing. They also have a buyer’s guide.

Geek.com
Not as sleek as the rest of the list, but there is still some good info here, including their buyer’s guide.

Blogs

Gizmodo
This site focuses on all gadget news, but consumers can choose only to look at specific gadgets, such as laptops.

Engadget
Another blog that contains all kinds of gadget news, but has its own laptop page, which focuses on new laptop releases as well as laptop-related news.

Here is a list of the top laptop/notebook manufacturers:

Apple

Sony

Lenovo/IBM

Dell

Alienware

Choosing the right laptop is a tough decision, but hopefully these sites will help you navigate your way to the best machine for your needs. If you know of another good laptop site, email me at jpaulsen@bullz-eye.com and I’ll put it in the guide.
