Unfortunately, that famous Dutch frugalness no longer translates to lodging. While there are still good deals to be had, it might take some homework. The upscale hotels can be as expensive as Paris and London, while many of the mid-scale hotels look great from the outside, but only provide standard amenities on the inside. The mid-scale, family-run hotels outside the downtown area usually offer the best value.
