There is good reason that Toad had such a devoted following nationwide before they split up two years ago. They had that magical combination of songs that send chills down your spine, top-notch playing and radio-friendly production. It's always nice to take a look through my CD rack and pull out one of my favorites.

Somehow this record lacked the radio hits that Toad was known for, but in my opinion Dulcinea featured some of their best material. The singles "Fly From Heaven" and "Something's Always Wrong" are laced with slick guitar playing and smooth vocal lines, while songs like "Fall Down" and "Inside" just flat out rock -- it's hard to explain, but only in a way that Toad can rock. Then there's my favorite track, "Crowing," a song about a friend being used as a lover. One of the last tracks, "Begin," is one of those bone-chilling ballads that's perfect for a movie soundtrack.

As a songwriter myself, it's easy for me to write favorably about one of my biggest influences. But judging by the way Toad fans talk about this band, it's easy to see why these guys were so universally accepted and liked. They were one of those bands that was instantly likeable, and lucky for all of you who are reading this you can still pick up this gem.
