Everyone knows where Mercedes sits in the luxury hierarchy – right up top. The German car maker was formed as Benz & Cie in 1871 on the cutting edge of the motor industry. In 1886, Karl Benz was credited with the invention of the first automobile as most early autos were simply horse carriages with an engine attached. Benz would merge with Daimler Motoren Gessellschaft shortly after World War I, forming Daimler-Benz, the company that would later pioneer the Mercedes name. The company would eventually purchase Chrysler, forming DaimlerChrysler AG.

Today, Daimler AG has split from a floundering Chrysler to focus on the Mercedes-Benz image. They continue to innovate with features such a PRE-SAFE, a system which sets the passenger in optimal position in the event of an imminent crash. For many, Mercedes continues to be the ‘real’ luxury brand, always on the bleeding edge of research and development without neglecting elegance in style and power in performance.

The vehicle section of the site offers a retail oriented look at the cars and the brand.
